In the year 2023, we currently live in a fast paced world normally dominated by technology, sceens, and devices, which makes the act of reading hold a unique position.

To some people, reading can be like an escape or save haven to an alternate dimension where things are much better than reality. I happen to be guilty to be one of those people. And to other people reading is a complete requirment in order to pass their boring english class.

Wether you’re one or the other or something in the middle, my goal in this article is to convince you to read, because I truly belive nobody hates reading, they just haven’t found the right essay or book yet. And reading can have so many amaing traits that come attatched with doing so. And now without further adu, here are 10 benifits of reading!

1. Enhanced vocabulary

Reading introduces you to new and unique words you might not find in a day to day conversation. Almost every author uses unique and rich words and phrases to keep their readers hooked. And nowdays, (if you can’t guess the meaning of a word from context itself,) on most online reading sights there are programs that let you see the dictionary meaning of a word which makes things much easier.

2. Social bonds

Reading allows you to connect with different people over new topics. Discussing written peices with others fosters social interactions and can lead to forming book clubs or reading groups. You could find an unlikely friend through an interesting debate about chicken conservatory to both of you fallling in love with the same fictional charcater. (Hey it’s happened to me, it can happen to anyone)

3. Self reflection and personal growth

When you read, you meet new characters or ideas with different perspectives and information. Reflecting on how these relate to your own experiences and beliefs can lead to personal growth. You might gain insights into your emotions, values, and motivations. In other words, reading helps you grow and reflect on yourself as a person.

4. A source of Joy

Reading can bring people a lot of happiness, due to the ways it engages your mind with emotions and imagination. You could find yourself in a deep emotional connection with an author or character, or feel a sense of satisfaction or pride in yourself when you finish a book.

5. Learning

Depending on what you’re reading, each text can teach you something new! Some fasinating information about microbiology to cultural understanding, to finding the answer to solve global warming!

In a world racing with screens and gadgets, reading stands apart. It’s more than an escape or an academic requirment, it’s a doorway to growth, joy, and connections. So, grab a book, open your mind, and let the words set your imagination free.
